Northside Independent School District has recognized St. Mary’s Graduate Program Director and Computer Science Professor Carol Luckhardt Redfield, Ph.D., as a district-wide Partner of the Year.

Only 13 district winners are selected from more than 300 campus winners. The awards go to those who strive to improve the education of NISD students.

She’ll be honored at the 2013 Partner of the Year Awards reception at 5:30 p.m. on April 16 at Paul Taylor Field House, 7001 Culebra Road.

Jay P. Sumpter, principal of John Jay Science and Engineering Academy, nominated Redfield because of her vast contributions to his school. Her work at SEA has generated about $1.5 million in college scholarships for students, he said.

St. Mary’s University awards seven $40,000 scholarships annually to the top winners of the SEA Science and Engineering Fair. These winners present at the University’s annual Research Symposium.

Redfield is an active mentor to SEA students, helping with science projects and judging the science fair with industry professionals she’s recruited.

“Her commitment to excellence in STEM research at the high school level is unparalleled,” Sumpter wrote in his nomination statement.

He also cited her service to the advisory board, creation of teacher appreciation initiatives, presentations on artificial intelligence and game development, promotion of a positive image of the school, and even her coaching of the Ultimate Frisbee club.
