As part of maintaining institutional control, procedures for handling potential secondary and/or major violations must be in place. Self-reporting violations not only shows a commitment to compliance but also high ethical standards. Should a potential violation occur, it is expected that staff members, administrators, student-athletes, and representatives of athletics interests self-report the potential issue to be properly investigated. The following steps will be followed to ensure all potential violations are addressed, investigated, and reported as necessary.
Information of a potential rules violation will be reported to the Compliance Officer.
The Compliance Officer will make a preliminary inquiry to determine if a violation did occur. The determination will be made with the assistance of the conference and NCAA staff when necessary.
If during the preliminary inquiry it is determined a violation did not occur, a memorandum will be prepared explaining the decision and the Director of Athletics will be informed.
If after the preliminary inquiry it is determined further investigation is needed, the Director of Athletics and Coach (if appropriate) will be informed of the potential violation and of the individuals involved.
The Compliance Officer will initiate an investigation to determine all the facts surrounding the alleged violation.
When the investigation is complete and a determination has been made as to the extent of the violation, the Director of Athletics will inform the FAR and the President that a violation has occurred.
The Compliance Officer will submit a violation report through the NCAA online portal (Requests/Self-Reports Online). Any penalties and/or reinstatement procedures will be determined by case precedent and NCAA mandates.
