San Antonio – The Lady Rattlers didn’t head into Thanksgiving the way they would have liked.

Lacking rhythm offensively, the St. Mary’s women’s basketball team let one get away in a 65-54 loss to Incarnate Word at Bill Greehey Arena on Wednesday.

Felicia Jacobs (Sr., San Antonio) had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Jackie Woods (Jr., San Antonio) contributed a team-high 16 points, but it wasn’t enough against a resilient UIW squad that pulled away late.

St. Mary’s (3-2) went on a 10-0 run over the end of the first half through the opening of the second half, erasing a seven-point deficit and turning it into a 32-29 lead with 15 minutes remaining.

But UIW (3-2) caught fire from there, capitalizing on St. Mary’s miscues to turn a 44-43 lead with 6:27 remaining into a 51-43 advantage two minutes later.

Free-throw shooting and turnovers doomed the Rattlers down the stretch, committing 22 turnovers in all and going 15 of 26 at the charity stripe. To make things worse, they weren’t finding their shot from the floor, hitting 31.6 percent (18 of 57) for the game.

Twenty-four of UIW’s 65 points came at the free-throw line, where it attempted 37 shots.

Mariah Lee (Jr., Houston) added nine points and eight boards for the Rattlers on 3 of 5 shooting.

The talented Rattlers will look to regain their form Saturday, when they host Harding at 3 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena.
