Biography

In his role as the Ombuds, O’Connor has been available to listen to faculty, staff and students and to help clarify communications, complaints and concerns with the hope of resolving them informally.

He has worked to develop his skills by joining the International Ombudsman Association (IOA) and attending and presenting at workshops and programs provided by the organization. He adheres to the IOA Code of Ethics and implements its Standards of Practices at St. Mary’s, which focus on confidentiality, impartiality, independence and informality.

O’Connor is dedicated to the work of the Ombuds Office, which includes identifying procedural irregularities, broad systemic problems, and opportunities for preventive action as well. While preserving the confidentiality of the Office and all communications, O’Connor periodically reports to President Thomas M. Mengler on the health of the campus environment, and calls attention to procedural or systemic issues that the University should address.
