Biography
Thomas E. Macrini, Ph.D., researches the comparative anatomy of fossil and extant mammals, particularly the internal structures of the skull and the sensory structures that these house (e.g., olfactory epithelium, brain, and ear).
Using high-resolution X-ray computed tomography (CT) to non-destructively visualize these internal structures in order to document their anatomy, Macrini is searching for new data that uncovers the evolutionary relationships of mammals and traces the evolution of sensory structures in the fossil record.
In addition to his role as Professor of Biological Sciences, Macrini serves as the Benjamin F. Biaggini Chair of Biological Sciences, chair of the Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC), the Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) faculty director, the pre-veterinary studies adviser, as a faculty co-adviser for Beta Beta Beta Biological Honors Society, HOSA, and the Pre-Medical Society, and as the faculty adviser for the Biology Living Learning Community.
