Biography

Before joining St. Mary's University, Jason Denton, DPT, practiced as a licensed Physical Therapist for 15 years and was a Strength and Conditioning Specialist for six years. Denton also taught English as a second language class for three years and has worked in advocacy for immigration reform. He joined St. Mary's because he shares similar values as the University, particularly the St. Mary's commitment to community service and social justice. He believes educating students about Exercise and Sport Science is important because it provides a strong foundation of knowledge and problem solving that can help students achieve excellence as coaches, teachers, strength and conditioning specialists, or health care practitioners. As a professor to St. Mary's scholars, he hopes to pass along a passion for studying and understanding topics related to Exercise and Sport Science and to model a holistic and client-centered approach to health care. When he is not teaching, Denton enjoys playing games or sports with his sons and coaching their teams. He also enjoys hiking, reading and traveling with his wife and friends. His proudest moments in his career have been seeing dozens of his former students go on to pursue careers as health care professionals or gain acceptance to a professional school of their choice.
