Miguel Humberto Diaz, Ph.D., presented “Bridging Divine and Human Life: God’s Life-Giving Migrations and Our Human and Global Life-Seeking Migrations” on April 2 as part of the 11th annual Catholic Intellectual Tradition Lecture Series.

“We become more human in giving to and receiving from others, as Christ did,” Diaz said during his presentation.

Diaz is an American theologian, university professor, diplomat, commentator and former ambassador. He served as United States Ambassador to the Holy See from 2009 to 2012, and he was the first Hispanic person to represent the United States in the Vatican. He is a professor of faith and culture at the University of Dayton (Ohio), and he has been a prominent consultant for national news media regarding Pope Benedict’s resignation and the election of Pope Francis.

He has published books, such as “On Being Human: U.S. Hispanic and Rahnerian Perspectives” and “From the Heart of Our People: Explorations in Catholic Systematic Theology.” His writing has appeared in magazines, including America and U.S. Catholic.

Diaz is a member of the Catholic Theological Society of America and is a former President of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States. He received his B.A. from St. Thomas University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. Diaz also has received several honorary doctorates while serving as ambassador.
