The Student Health Center provides high quality primary health care services that are cost-effective and accessible to enrolled students of St. Mary’s University.
All new students of St. Mary’s University, including transfer and returning students, who are under the age of 22, must submit the Meningitis Vaccine Requirement Form prior to registering for classes. Please visit www.stmarytx.edu/healthcenter and click on “Incoming Students” to download the Meningitis Vaccine Requirement Form. Please note that a student must show evidence of receipt of an initial bacterial meningitis vaccination dose during the five-year period preceding, and at least 10 days prior to, the first class day of the first semester in which the student initially enrolls at St. Mary’s University.
The Student Health Center offers the meningitis vaccine for $100.00 during June and August Zaragoza Orientation sessions. The meningococcal meningitis vaccine is also offered at local clinics and pharmacies.
IMPORTANT: In order to confirm your class registration during a Zaragoza Orientation session you must submit the Meningitis Vaccine Requirement Form at least 1 week prior to your scheduled orientation session. Students cannot confirm class registration until this information is received by the Student Health Center.
Meningitis Vaccine Exemption Process
Students can choose to seek an exemption to the meningitis vaccination by submitting the official Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Vaccine Exemption form to our office. This exemption form must be mailed to you directly from the DSHS office. It may take up to two weeks to receive the DSHS Vaccine Exemption form by mail, so plan accordingly. This form must be submitted to the Student Health Center at least 10 days prior to the first class day or one week prior to a scheduled Zaragoza Orientation session. The original form is required in our office. We cannot, by Texas law, accept a photocopy of the form. The form must be MAILED or HAND-DELIVERED to:

Student Health Insurance and Insurance Waiver Process
All students who reside on campus and all international students (on and off campus), and all athletes will be charged automatically for the STMU-sponsored health insurance plan. If students carry comparable coverage with their parents or employers, they can have the insurance premium removed by completing the waiver process online at http://www.ahpcare.com/stmarytx/waiver. The waiver process must be completed by the 12th class day of the entering semester. No extensions will be made to the deadline. The online waiver process for Fall 2014 will become available on June 1st, 2014. All other students who meet eligibility criteria can enroll online for the STMU-sponsored health insurance plan by visiting www.ahpcare.com/stmarytx.
Commuter students may enroll on the StMU-sponsored health insurance plan and can request the premium be added to your student business account. The deadline to request to add the premium to your student business account is the 12th class day of the entering semester. Tuberculosis (Tb) Screening Requirement of International Students
All International students must complete the TB Screening Questionnaire and TB Risk Assessment Form , and mail this form to the Student Health Center prior to the first class day. The Student Health Center offers the TB skin test at NO CHARGE for international students; however the student is responsible for charges resulting from follow-up testing, referrals, or treatment if found medically necessary.
