Special Programs in the School of Science, Engineering and Technology

To enhance student learning and opportunities, the School of Science, Engineering and Technology offers several programs to assist students in achieving their educational and career goals. These include academic enhancement as well as experiential learning opportunities that will better prepare our students for meeting the challenges they will face in graduate school, in professional school, or in their future careers.


Biaggini Research Program 

The Biaggini Research Program is an endowed program that promotes research projects and provides scholarships to biology majors.


U-RISE Program 

U-Rise provides St. Mary’s students with a two-year training program designed to give them the technical, operational, and professional skills necessary to transition into research-focused higher degree programs and the biomedical or behavioral sciences workforce.


Pre-Health Professional Programs 

St. Mary’s University offers pre-health professional programs for those who want to pursue health care professions.


Title V – Building Capacity for Excellence in STEM Education 

The U.S. Department of Education awarded St. Mary’s University a Title V, Part A grant through the Developing Hispanic–Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program, Award Number P031S190118. The University will receive $2,966,348 over five years between Fall 2019 and Fall 2024 for its “Building Capacity for Excellence in STEM Education” (BEST) Project. 


NSF LSAMP Program

The purpose of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program is to help increase diversity in the STEM workforce by increasing the number of baccalaureate and graduate degrees produced in the nation.


Engineering Senior Design Projects

The Engineering senior design project is a two-semester effort jointly supervised by St. Mary’s faculty and engineers from the sponsoring organization.
