Learning Assistance Center

The Learning Assistance Center (LAC) is a learner-oriented service that provides academic support and instructional resources to the students, staff and faculty of St. Mary’s University. Our services are free, and we are located on the third floor of the Blume Library. Current students and faculty can learn more about our services and programs via Gateway; however, overview information about some of our services is provided here.

Tutoring is offered for a variety of subjects and available throughout the week. All sessions are one hour and held in the LAC unless otherwise noted. One-on-one sessions are also available by appointment. Call the LAC at 210-436-3203 for more information.

Supplemental Instruction and
Peer-led Team Learning

Supplemental Instruction is a series of weekly reserved sessions for all students who want to understand course material better and to improve their grades.

Peer-led Team Learning is a weekly workshop activity designed by the course instructor to reinforce important concepts.

Supplemental Instruction and Peer-led Team Learning offer you a chance to get together with classmates, discuss concepts, develop strategies, and test yourself before the professor does. Join a group early in the semester for best results. To make the most of your sessions, attend regularly and come prepared to ask questions.

Problem-solving Centers

If you need short-term help with a trouble spot, call or come by the LAC to make a reservation for either the Math Center or the Computer Center.

Writing Center

The Writing Center gives you the opportunity to work with peer tutors on any writing task, and works with writers in all subjects. We also work wth international students who would like to improve their English skills.
