Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in United States History

As demand for dual credit opportunities in Texas secondary schools increases, so does the need for qualified teachers to teach these courses.

The Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in United States History will provide an opportunity for instructors who already have a master’s degree in another area to be credentialed to teach Dual Credit U.S. History courses.

Students who participate in the certificate program may apply their completed credit hours toward a Master of Arts in Public History from St. Mary’s University.   • Certificate Timing


    The certificate includes 18 credit hours of graduate-level courses in U.S. History. It is expected to be completed in twelve months. Students will complete 12 credit hours in Summer (six credits per five-week session) and six credit hours during Fall.

    Courses will be offered in an online format (Summer I: May to June; Summer II: June to July; and Fall: August to December). Both Fall courses will include synchronous meetings in the evening, and summer courses may include synchronous meetings.

  • Courses


    All courses are offered online. The required Graduate Certificate in Dual Credit Teaching in U.S. History courses are:

    • HS 7350 Topics in U.S. History: Gender (Summer)
    • HS 7353 Topics in U.S. History: Social and Economic History (Summer)
    • HS 7352 Topics in U.S. History: Political and Military History (Summer)
    • HS 7351 Topics in U.S. History: Race and Ethnicity (Summer)
    • HS 7343 United States in World History (Fall)
    • HS 7345 History of the American West and Borderlands (Fall)

Admission

Students interested in pursuing the Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in U.S. History must complete an online application and submit a transcript from the highest degree-granting institution (bachelor’s or master’s).

Please note: An unofficial copy of your transcript can be used to apply for admission to the program. If enrolled in the program, students will be required to submit an official transcript within four weeks of the start of class.


Certificate Cost

The Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in U.S. History program is offered at a fixed rate of $12,000, which includes tuition, required fees and course materials.


Financial Aid

Students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate for Dual Credit Teaching in U.S. History are not currently eligible to receive federal or state financial assistance.

Military, their dependents and Department of Defense employees may be eligible for a tuition discount.
