About the Lecture

The Department of International Relations at St. Mary’s University presents its third lecture on North Korea. This year’s lecture is titled, North Korean Military Proliferation in the Middle East and Africa: Enabling Violence and Instability, featuring guest speaker Bruce E. Bechtol, Ph.D., Professor of Political Science at Angelo State University.

Join Bechtol, a retired marine, for a presentation featuring topics in his new book, North Korean Military Proliferation in the Middle East and Africa: Enabling Violence and Instability, which discusses topics such as relevant North Korean military capabilities, how it skirts its sanctions, how the country’s activities can best be contained and more.


Guest Speaker: Bruce E Bechtol, Jr., Ph.D.
Bruce E. Bechtol Jr., Ph.D., is Professor of Political Science at Angelo State University and a retired Marine. He is the author or editor of six previous books, including The Last Days of Kim Jong-il and Confronting Security Challenges on the Korean Peninsula.
