  • B.S., University of Texas Pan American, 2013
  • M.S., University of Texas Pan American, 2015

Oscar Hernandez joined the St. Mary’s faculty in fall 2016 as an Instructor of Engineering.

After having gained a wealth of experience working for his father, Hernandez received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas Pan American in 2013 and 2015, respectively.

While he was a student, Oscar worked as an aircraft load planner for UPS. He also taught a lab in Measurements and Instrumentation in addition to working as a research assistant for the Aerodynamics and Propulsion Laboratory, a lab he co-founded being the lead investigator on a project that was granted more than $430,000 by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Hernandez published his work and laid the foundation for Engineering students attending University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to get some unique hands-on work in aerospace engineering.

Hernandez’s main research area is mechanical engineering with a focus on design optimization, energy conservation, electromagnetism, and our mother Earth.
