Born on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean, Lucien C. Manchester, Ph.D. attended the University of the Virgin Islands and received an associate degree and a bachelor of arts with honors degree in Biology.

He received a predoctoral scholarship from the U.S. Department of Public Health to study “Ciguatoxicity and Its Relationship to Colon Cancer” at the Eppley Cancer Institute – an extension of the University of Nebraska Medical Center – working under the mentorship of Drs. Phillipe Shubik, Alvin M. Earle and Melvin Greenblatt. Upon graduation, Manchester received postdoctoral training at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and conducted research for “The Biology of the Pineal Gland in General Health and Aging” at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in the Department of Cellular and Structural Biology.

Manchester joined the lab of Russell J. Reiter, Ph.D., and Dun-Xian Tan, Ph.D., and more than 50 international scientists forming a viable, strategic and highly complex melatonin association. He has accumulated more than 116 peer-reviewed publications, an H-Index of 52, an i-10 index of 88 and more than 10,700 peer-reviewed citations of scholarly research in his 30-plus year career.

During his career, Manchester has received the following awards and recognition:

Distinguished Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, 1991
Marie Hall Research Fellowship U.T.M.B. Galveston, Texas, June-August, 1991
Trio Achievement Award, Upward Bound, 1992
Faculty Development Award, Fall, 1994
Certificate of Appreciation from The University of Texas School of Medicine at Houston: Nomination by entering students to the Doctor of Medicine degree program
Who’s Who in Teaching, 1994 and 1995
