Voice instructor Kimberly Stephenson teaches Vocal Pedagogy at St. Mary’s University, as well as Essential Elements, Diction, Kodály Pedagogy, and operates a vocal studio for majors and non-majors alike. Kimberly is earning a doctorate in education from Teachers College of Columbia, New York. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio and her Master of Music degree, emphasis: Kodály Pedagogy, at Texas State University. Kimberly is Kodály and World Music Drumming Certified, as well as Certified in All-Level Vocal Music Education. While attending UTSA, she studied voice with Linda Poetschke as well as conducting with John Silantien and Gary Mabry. She also holds an Ed.M. from Columbia University.
Kimberly has appeared with the San Antonio Mastersingers, the San Antonio Opera, Steven Stoli’s Playhouse, and the Sheldon Vexler Experimental Theatre. Kimberly also took part in a program called the Coyote Kids, in conjunction with the San Antonio Spurs, in which she not only performed but also assisted with scripting, lyric development, and choreography. This group was a quartet of vocalists and dancers that performed shows based upon current pop and rap tunes in elementary schools both in the San Antonio and South Texas area. The focus of these performances was “Respect Yourself”.
Kimberly has served at Temple Beth El as a quartet soloist and section leader. She has also served as quartet soloist, section leader, cantorial soloist, and Assistant Children’s Choir Director at Christ Episcopal Church. She has served as the hand bell Choir Director (Ringing Word) and substitute Choir Director at Northern Hills United Methodist Church, and as section leader, soloist, Children’s Church Music Leader, and Music Librarian at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Additionally, Kimberly sang under Madeline Fallis in the San Antonio performing group Laudate and served a quartet soloist for Congregation Israel under the direction of David Silverstein, a position which also included annual performances at the Raul B. Jimenez Thanksgiving dinner.
Kimberly previously taught at Stahl Elementary (NEISD) as Music Instructor as well as Choral Director, Drum Ensemble Director (Stahl Thunder), and Annual Talent Show Coordinator. Kimberly frequently partnered with student teachers and also served as a mentor to new Music teachers. Her passion for developing and retaining Music teachers led her to the district position of Lead Elementary Music Mentor, a position she held for three years. Prior to this, she taught at Northern Hills Elementary (NEISD) where she served also as Music Instructor as well as Choral Director, Choirchimes and Recorder Ensembles Director, and Talent Show Coordinator. She has taught Choir and Jazz Ensemble at Anson Jones Middle School (NISD) and Music, Choir, and Movement at Douglass and Pershing Elementaries (SAISD). Currently, she is the soloist for the Third Church of Christ, San Antonio.
