Three members of the St. Mary’s University community will be honored Thursday, Jan. 21, with the 2016 Marianist Heritage Award. This year’s recipients are Deidra Coleman, Interim Director, Student Counseling; Rosemarie Wahl, Ph.D., Professor of Biology; and Aaron Tyler, Ph.D., Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Marianist Heritage Student Leadership recipients Pablo Medina, Chantelle Ruidant and Julieta Sanchez also will be honored.

The honorees will be recognized during the Marianist Heritage Mass at 11:10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish. To allow students and faculty to attend, 11:10 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. classes will be canceled.

The Marianist Heritage Award recognizes members of the University community who, by their professional lives and personal interactions on campus, devote themselves to our Catholic and Marianist mission.

When it was created, the award focused on the experience of the laity and their growing understanding of the Marianist charism. During the past 30 years, mutual responsibility among professed members of the Society of Mary, the Daughters of Mary Immaculate and lay colleagues, resulted in the need to recognize the efforts of the entire community. With great respect for the professed, the University wishes to recognize their continued efforts to fully implement the Mission.

Since first presented in 1981, more than 60 of our friends and colleagues have been recognized.
