the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will present a lecture on his new book, “Gathering Power: The Future of Progressive Politics in
America.”

WHAT: The 21st Century Leadership Center at St. Mary’s University is
sponsoring Osterman’s talk.

WHEN: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003

WHERE: Conference Room B, University Center, St. Mary’s University.

OF INTEREST: Osterman says that progressive politics is a viable
alternative to the current top-down decision making process of party politics, which he views as a threat to democracy and responsible for the
alienation of voters. In his book, Osterman focuses on how an interfaith network of community
organizations, the Industrial Areas Foundation based in McAllen, can organize at the grassroots level, create political power and improve the
lives of many disadvantaged people.
