Brother Louis T. Neugebauer, S.M., age 86, died in San Antonio, TX on February 1, 2003.

Brother was born in San Antonio, TX on February 2, 1916 to Louis and Marguerite Magott Neugebauer.

He had four brothers and three sisters. He attended Central Catholic High School where his activities included ROTC, Rifle Club, school paper and yearbook and class president his senior year. In 1934 he entered the Society of Mary and professed vows on August 15, 1935.

He obtained a B.A. in English at St. Mary’s University in 1938. Then he began a teaching career of 59 years, 51 of which were spent in San Antonio at his alma mater, Central Catholic High School. He had taught briefly at secondary schools in St. Louis and Detroit. He taught religion, English, Latin, civics and American History; his extra-curriculars included bookstore manager, boxing coach, American Red Cross moderator, vocation coordinator, alumni moderator, Assistant Treasurer and Registrar. For 14 summers (1954-68) Brother worked at Camp TECABOCA as Camp Director or Business Manager. In 2002, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer and underwent major surgery. When his health declined, Brother moved to the Marianist’s nursing facility at St. Mary’s University. Throughout his illness he demonstrated a gentle spirit and graciousness to all. Brother Louis is survived by his brothers, Tony and Clarence Neugebauer; sister, Mrs. Lorraine DeRiemer and his aunt, Mary Louise Holder. Services will be conducted in the Chapel of the Marianist Residence as follows:

Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2003 and Mass on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at 4 p.m., followed by interment in the Marianist Cemetery on the campus of St. Mary’s University.
