Accounting is the language of business. It involves the recognition, measurement, recording, reporting and analysis of economic events that affect decision-making processes. It is the way that companies keep score of how successful they are, whether this is measured by profit or growth. Bill Greehey School of Business
The Bill Greehey School of Business offers innovative programs designed to prepare students for real-world leadership and lifelong achievement. Comprehensive programs, such as a five-year combined Bachelor and Master of Business Administration, equip students for today's global and technological environment.

Guided by academic excellence, national prominence, and premier status, the School boasts contacts with prominent entrepreneurs and business leaders and a powerful alumni network.

Each program within the School emphasizes ethical leadership, technical excellence, global awareness, and professional orientation. The Greehey Scholars Program provides on-going interaction with industry executives, personal career development, and a full academic scholarship.

The Entrepreneurial Scholars experience learning models through travel, academic competition, and service through participation in a social entrepreneurship initiative. Students also benefit from a real-time stock trading room in which they manage a $1 million investment portfolio, and the American Marketing Association's Coca-Cola Executive Lecture Series, the largest lecture series on campus.

Marked by peer recognition and accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, AACSB International, the School continues its Marianist heritage of educating for the common good through scholarship and experiential learning.

Faculty
A student-faculty ratio of 13-to-1 assures personal attention designed to help students excel. A group of passionate and innovative teachers and researchers, the faculty of the Bill Greehey School of Business lead by example to create a challenging learning experience. Professors model the Marianist traditions of faith, integrity, community and service through initiatives such as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and the cross-cultural Innsbruck semester abroad.

Committed to providing excellent, adaptive and ethically based business programs, the business faculty is a source of great knowledge and enthusiasm in the School and across the University.

Program Highlights
The Innsbruck, Austria, program is an international experience designed to expose students to the different effects that cultural, economic, legal, political, social and technological environments have on the way business is conducted throughout the world. Studies in either Chile or Brazil allow business majors to examine the languages, history, cultures, political economies and business environments of the Americas.

Accounting students have accepted internships with organizations including AT&T, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, BKD, LLP, KPMG, Merrill Lynch, Tesoro Corporation, Wilford Hall Medical Center, Valero Energy Corp., Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, Union Pacific, Harte-Hanks, and CPS Energy.

The Bill Greehey School of Business offers student leadership organizations such as the American Marketing Association, Accounting Club, Beta Gamma Sigma, Delta Epsilon Sigma, Delta Sigma Pi, Finance Club, International Business Club, Association of Information Technology Professionals, SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise), and Web-Journal of the Americas.

Accounting students engage in a number of enriching service programs, including the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and financial counseling at the St. Mary's University School of Law's Center for Legal and Social Justice.

St. Mary's offers many study-abroad and internship opportunities to enhance learning and cultural understanding. Study-abroad programs offer students an educational experience that will prepare them to face the 21st century with considerable confidence, superior abilities, and an understanding of tomorrow's business environment.

Post-Graduate Study
Graduates from the accounting and the professional accountancy track in the M.B.A. program will have completed an educational program recommended by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Graduates of the M.B.A. program also will complete the 30 hours of accounting and 150 total hours required to sit for the Texas CPA examination.

Students have also pursued advanced degrees at Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, University of Notre Dame, The University of Texas at Austin University of Virginia, Texas Christian University, and the University of North Texas.
