Access your Barracuda Account

When you receive your temporary Barracuda password via email mentioned in the previous step, you can click on the link in the email or you can click here and access your Barracuda account. https://barracuda.stmarytx.edu For best functionality it is recommended that you navigate this website with Internet Explorer version 7 or later.

Navigate the QUARANTINE INBOX tab

After you have accessed your Barracuda account you will be presented with your QUARANTINE INBOX. Here you will find messages that have been quarantined for your review. Within the Quarantine Inbox you have a filter option to aid with searching through lots of messages. Below the message filter you have a list of the currently quarantined messages. Above the messages you have six buttons that you can apply to all selected messages as a group. These buttons are Deliver, Whitelist, Whitelist+Not Spam combination button (adds the email address to the whitelist and classifies the message as an example of "Not Spam" for Bayesian Learning) , Delete, Classify as Spam, Classify as Not Spam. To the left of each message is a selection "check box" You can select any number of messages or you can select all messages by selecting the "check box" to the left of "Time Received" and then you can select any one of the six previously mentioned buttons to apply to all selected messages at once. Another option is that you can select an action button to the right of each message individually.

Navigate the PREFERENCES tab

At the top of this tab you will find four additional tabs.

Whitelist/Blacklist
You can add specific addresses or complete domains to be processed without scanning by typing the address or domain in the "Email Address" field and selecting the "Add" button or you can select the "Bulk Edit" button and enter several email addresses and or domains to process without scanning. You can similarly modify the "Blacklist" which will block single addresses and or complete domains.

Quarantine Settings
Here you will find the options to Enable/Disable Quarantine, adjust Notification Interval and Address, and change the Default Language.

Spam Settings

Bayesian Learning

This is a method by which you "train" the Barracuda to distinguish between what is Spam and Not Spam. In the QUARANTINE INBOX tab we mentioned three buttons; Classify as Spam, Classify as Not Spam and Whitelist+NotSpam. By routinely selecting any of these three buttons to classify messages as either Spam or Not Spam, you are adding sample emails to the Bayesian Learning database. As you increase the size of your Bayesian database you increase the accuracy of the Barracuda Bayesian filter. Take care not to only add "Spam" messages as this method relies on having good examples of both Spam and Not Spam.

What does [BULK] mean?

When a message enters our spam filter system and is judged to be suspicious (looks like spam) but not clearly spam, the message will be "Tagged" and delivered with [BULK] in the subject line to indicate that special care should be used when opening this message. If this message received this tag in error, you can classify this message as "Not-Spam" to help adjust your Bayesian database. To adjust your Bayesian database from your Microsoft Outlook client you can download the Barracuda client add-in found on the Barracuda login page https://barracuda.stmarytx.edu
