Fiesta of Physics
It's Phun, it's Phree, it's Physics

Twice a year, elementary school kids from surrounding districts flock to St. Mary's campus for a day of wacky science experiments, hands-on science demonstrations, and indoor and outdoor fun. Leading these young scientists around are a handful of the University's most dedicated and energetic Physics and science students.

Fiesta of Physics is just another of the many ways St. Mary's breaks down barriers to higher education.
Future Educators

The Fiesta of Physics leaders are primarily physics majors and future educators, but it's open to all majors.

The event is a great way for these students to learn hands-on how to capture young kids' interest while imparting their cutting-edge knowledge of the world of physics.

Of course, a large group of participants think Fiesta of Physics, which St. Mary's students enroll in as a class, is just plain fun.
Breaking Down Barriers, Building "Bonds"

From surrounding school districts come dozens of elementary school children, many of whom are at-risk youths or come from low-income families.

The Physics department hopes to see these promising young scientists enrolling in St. Mary's in the future.
Physics Department Shines

Community service is one way that St. Mary's has always shined; but combined with student research and a rigorous course load, the school's graduates have an impressive body of experience to bring to the industry.

They learn to seek innovative solutions to the field's most complex problems, but they also learn the value of giving back to the community--both the academic community, and those surrounding the University.
