<description><![CDATA[St. Mary&rsquo;s University has unveiled its retooled Masters of Business Administration Program, which specializes in a professional education that prepares graduates to succeed with a foundation of strong ethics and socially responsible business practices. 

The program, now known as the Greehey M.B.A., it is an 18&ndash;month, cohort&ndash;based program that incorporates advanced graduate&ndash;level academic preparation with a special emphasis on ethical leadership, corporate social responsibility, sustainability and social entrepreneurship topics that have become hallmarks of St. Mary&rsquo;s University and the Bill Greehey School of Business.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[St. Louis Hall Preservation Project Unveiled]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[St. Mary&rsquo;s University unveiled the results of a $6.1 million preservation project recently completed on historic St. Louis Hall during a rededication ceremony Friday, May 11, 2012, at 3:30 p.m.

The project included improvements in safety, energy efficiency, functionality and appearance. While the 118&ndash;year&ndash;old building has been renovated numerous times in its storied history, this project sought to both update important systems&mdash;including the addition of a modern fire detection, alarm and sprinkler system, as well as new lighting, electrical and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems&mdash;and return the building to its original condition.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[St. Mary's Students Excel in Business Plan Contest]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[St. Mary&rsquo;s University students were on two winning teams in the Free Trade Alliance Future Global Leaders: International Business Plan competition held recently in San Antonio. 

The competition included graduate and undergraduate students from 22 colleges and universities around the world. The teams were tasked with developing a complete international business plan involving the import or export of a good or service in a way that fosters sustainability, utilizes renewable resources and addresses disposal of the product and packaging after consumption.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Enjoy the sounds of great national, regional and local jazz artists as the 50th Annual Fiesta Jazz Festival kicks off on Friday, April 27 with the Fiesta World Class Jazz Concert from 1&ndash;10 p.m. on the campus of St. Mary&rsquo;s University. The St. Mary&rsquo;s Department of Music and the San Antonio Fiesta Commission are the sponsors of this event, which is one of the oldest Jazz festivals in the nation. The Friday concert will kick off at 1 p.m. in the Pecan Grove with outstanding university and junior college jazz bands performing, with headliner The Jim Cullum Jazz Band at 8:30 p.m.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Project to Beautify Community, Aid College Access]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[On Sunday, April 22, St. Mary&rsquo;s University is hosting a unique service event will both help beautify the neighborhood and help put middle and high school students on the path to college success. The event is a partnership with Generation TX San Antonio, a nonprofit committed to making San Antonio a college&ndash;going and career&ndash;ready community in a single generation, and the San Antonio Youth Commission. The event will bring together students from St. Mary&rsquo;s University students, who will work hand&ndash;in&ndash;hand on two community pocket parks starting at 9 a.m. The event will conclude with a picnic lunch. About 30 middle school, high school and St. Mary&rsquo;s students are expected to participate. It is a part of the San Antonio Youth Commission&rsquo;s Youth Day of Service.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Heather Hill, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology, first experienced working with marine mammals during her graduate work at the University of Southern Mississippi. Her professor and mentor, a language expert, was part of a comparative psychology dolphin study. This early work with marine mammal cognition and behavioral development fostered a passion for research that has influenced her career trajectory.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[As a St. Mary&rsquo;s University student, Adriana Gonzalez de Villafranca was observant. She watched others follow their dreams and pursue opportunities, carefully planning how she would do the same. An English Communications student, she was first attracted to television media and worked for a time at Telemundo. Villafranca quickly realized she would rather be in &ldquo;the trenches,&rdquo; helping to bring positive change in her community. She earned her undergraduate degree in 1993, and followed that with a Masters of Public Administration in 1995.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Teresa Van Hoy's Scholarly Pilgrimage]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[History Professor Teresa Van Hoy, Ph.D., began what she calls her &ldquo;scholarly pilgrimage&rdquo; in June 2011 when she became O&rsquo;Connor Chair for the History of Hispanic Texas and the Southwest. As the O&rsquo;Connor Chair, she has been granted two years for extensive research and to write a book. She receives the University&rsquo;s support through course releases, which give her the time for presentations and lectures both on and off campus while focusing on her research as a Borderlands scholar.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[The President&rsquo;s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll has again recognized St. Mary&rsquo;s University for its strong commitment to service and civic engagement. St. Mary&rsquo;s is one of only two Texas colleges and universities included in the 2012 Honor Roll with Distinction list. <br><br>

St. Mary&rsquo;s has made the Honor Roll every year since it was launched six years ago. Last May, the Corporation for National and Community Service named St. Mary&rsquo;s University one of just six colleges and universities to receive the Presidential Award, recognizing St. Mary&rsquo;s as a top institution in the nation for volunteering, service&ndash;learning and civic engagement.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Alumnus Gives $1 Million Toward New Stadium]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[When Dave Dickson decided to give $1 million to his alma mater St. Mary&rsquo;s University, it was a continuation of a story that started more than 50 years ago. Having grown up on Marquette Drive just a block north of St. Mary&rsquo;s, Dickson always held the University close to his heart. Even after getting thrown out of the St. Mary&rsquo;s swimming pool as a kid. &ldquo;Back in the &lsquo;50s, the University&rsquo;s swimming pool was closed in the evening because that&rsquo;s when the Brothers would use it,&rdquo; Dickson recalled with a chuckle. &ldquo;I remember as a kid sneaking into the pool. But every time we would get busted, the Brothers were never rude or said we couldn&rsquo;t come back.&rdquo;]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Board of Trustees  Announces President Selection]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[The St. Mary&rsquo;s University Board of Trustees today unanimously appointed Thomas Mengler, J.D., as the University&rsquo;s 13th president, effective June 1, 2012. <br><br>

Mengler currently serves as the dean of the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis, where he also holds the Ryan Chair in Law. Prior to his current position, he worked at the University of Illinois, where he was dean of the College of Law as well as interim provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. As interim provost, Mengler oversaw all undergraduate and graduate programs and the University&rsquo;s entire $1 billion operating budget. Mengler received his bachelor&rsquo;s in philosophy from Carleton College and a master&rsquo;s in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin, where he also earned his law degree.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[St. Mary&rsquo;s University undergraduate biological sciences students Noel Shaheen, a senior, and Audrey Avila, a junior, are conducting graduate&ndash;level work through a highly competitive research program at the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio.

Shaheen and Avila were accepted into the South Texas Advanced Research Training Undergraduate Program (START&ndash;UP), a program funded through the National Institutes for Health to give advanced research opportunities to undergraduate students interested in pursuing doctoral programs in neuroscience. The program aims to allow the San Antonio area students opportunities for groundbreaking experimental research.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[Brian St. John, associate professor and chair of the Art Department at St. Mary&rsquo;s University, has been named the 2012 Artist of the Year by the San Antonio Art League and Museum. The Artist of the Year is honored with a retrospective exhibition and catalog. This award has been presented every year since 1945 to artists within a 60&ndash;mile radius of San Antonio. St. John&rsquo;s one&ndash;person exhibition will be at the museum from September 9 to October 23, 2012.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Hufford Honored with Unity of Humanity Award]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[St. Mary&rsquo;s University international relations professor Larry Hufford, Ph.D., has been honored with the 2012 Baha&rsquo;i Unity of Humanity Award for his long&ndash;time efforts to promote understanding, peace and equality.

The award was presented by the Martin Luther King Commission during the city&rsquo;s annual King Commission Public Award Ceremony on Jan. 17. The award recognizes members of the community whose lives embody the legacy of King. Hufford&rsquo;s nomination noted his efforts both in the local community and globally to promote cultural understanding and human dignity.]]></description>

Swift Jr., D.O., M.P.H., founder and CEO of Texas MedClinic, will be the featured speaker at the St. Mary&rsquo;s University Forum on Entrepreneurship Breakfast Series on Feb. 7, 2012. Swift established Texas MedClinic, which is a multi&ndash;facility urgent care and occupational clinic system, in 1982. It now has 14 locations in San Antonio, New Braunfels and Austin, employs 480, and contracts with 75 physicians to staff its facilities.]]></description>

The conference was held in November in St. Louis, Missouri. Jaclyn Bermudez, a senior biology major, won in the Biochemistry Scientific Discipline; Tracy Gonzalez, a senior biology and math major, won in the Interdisciplinary Sciences Discipline; and Tony Vega, a junior physics major, won in both Cancer Biology and Interdisciplinary Sciences Disciplines.]]></description>
