Dare to eXcel

Succeeding at St. Mary's is more than going to class and making good grades, we want you to take advantage of all St. Mary's has to offer and dare to eXcel.

The dare to eXcel program encompasses five components that challenge students to become engaged in their college experience from Day 1 through graduation. The program leads students to several offices and departments on campus, including Academic Advising and the Career Services Center, where the Academic Advising Plan outlines a step-by-step guideline for students to consult throughout their time at St. Mary's.

eXperience student life: At a place where community means everything, Rattler pride is more than just going to the same school ... it oozes throughout campus in the form of intramurals, Greek life and departmental clubs and associations. It is a fact that students who are involved with extracurricular activities are more likely to do well academically. Learn more about student organizations.

eXpand your world view: Study in London. Help Hurricane victims in New Orleans. Stretch beyond your perceived boundaries and take advantage of at least one of the study abroad or service-learning immersion experiences offered at St. Mary's. International experience is very important to becoming a well-rounded individual. Click here for more information on study abroad.

eXceed eXpectations: Do professional research at SeaWorld. Get top-secret security clearance at the FBI. Go on air at Radio Disney. You can do anything you want to. You could do an internship, shadow a working professional in your field for a couple of days and put what you learn in the classroom to the test. See what kind of opportunities are available for St. Mary's Students. Visit the Civic Engagement and Career Development Center or learn more about Undergraduate Research.

eXtend a helping hand: At St. Mary's, service is not just a clothing drive or food box, it is a way of life. More than 70 percent of the student body participates in community service. Have you done enough to help those who are in need? You might be amazed by how much you will benefit from helping another human being. Find out how you can do more.

eXplore your spirituality: Whether you need to stop in Assumption Chapel for a quick prayer to ask God to guide you through finals or need to attend a spiritual retreat to rejuvenate your soul, University Ministry provides ample opportunities to enliven one's spirituality. Though St. Mary's is a Catholic institution, people of all faiths are welcome. Visit the UMin Web site to learn more.

As you journey through your time here at St. Mary's, you will want to refer often to the Academic Advising Plan, and use the dare to eXcel five components as a quick reminder of your road map as a student. Make the most of YOUR experience!
