Office of Student Retention
The Office of Student Retention (OSR), an office within the Enrollment Management division works closely with many offices on-campus including: Financial Assistance, Registrar, Business Office, and Student Life.
OSR is a resource for students, parents, faculty and staff and is dedicated to helping improve the student experience at St. Mary's University, from day one through graduation.
The main mission of OSR is to retain and graduate students. This mission is carried out by the entire University community, including staff, faculty, administration, students, support staff and even parents.
Led by the Assistant Vice President for Retention Management, the Office of Student Retention also provides leadership and vision for planning, managing, and evaluating undergraduate retention activities
including Access St. Mary's and the Faculty Academic Mentor (FAM) program.
About the Assistant Vice President for Retention Management
Dr. Rosalind V. Alderman, a veteran staff member of St. Mary's University, has been working with students, parents, faculty and staff at St. Mary's for over 18 years. Her education and experience has helped her to create the Office of Student Retention and to make it a resource for all members of the St. Mary's community. Dr. Alderman is passionate about issues related to student success, in particular, retention and graduation.
In addition to leading the Office of Student Retention, Dr. Alderman has presented nationally on issues related to the first-year experience, assessment, student learning outcomes and strategic planning. She served as one of founding advisors for the Freshman Honor Society, Phi Eta Sigma, and serves as the treasurer of the national board for Gamma Sigma Alpha, the national Greek honorary. Alderman is also an active member of NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and ACPA.
Alderman graduated with a bachelor degree from West Texas A&M University and earned a Master of Arts degree in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Most recently, Dr. Alderman received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University in College Station. Her dissertation topic explored faculty and student interaction outside of the classroom. Dr. Alderman is also a graduate of the 35th Summer Seminar on Academic Administration, a program from Texas A&M Univeristy.
