Spring 2013 Priority Advising and Registration Information
The Spring 2013 course schedules is NOW available on Gateway. Priority Advising & Registration activities for Spring 2013 begin on Wednesday, October 17.
UNDERGRADUTE STUDENTS: Your classification determines the day your registration period begins. Your classification is determined by the total number of hours earned as of TODAY, NOT what you will have earned at the end of the Fall 2012 semester. Log into your Gateway account, click on "My St. Mary's", and then follow the steps on the "Enrollment Essentials" link. Make sure you select the Fall 2012 term to view your current classification.
Holds - Students must clear any outstanding obligations to the University in order to priority register for Spring 2013. You may still meet with your adviser and receive your Registration Pin Number, but you will not be able to register for classes until the hold is resolved. Check for holds under Step 3, "Check Your Registration Status". The priority advising and priority registration dates for each group of students is indicated below.

- Each classification has been assigned three days of Priority Advising followed by three days of Priority Online Registration.
- Students are required to meet with their adviser in order to register for courses. Upon meeting with students, advisers will give advisees a Registration Pin Number that will allow access to registration. All registration pin numbers will be NUMERIC. Once registered, if you misplaced or forget your registration Pin Number, please e-mail the Registrar Office at registrar@stmarytx.edu via your St. Mary's student e-mail account.
- On the first day of your classification period, registration will begin at 8 a.m.
- During your Priority Registration 3-day period, registration will be available 24/7 except during the weekends. Note that during Priority registration days, registration will not be available during the weekends. Access will be unavailable beginning at midnight on Fridays and resume at 8 am the following Monday.
- Students who register during Priority and Open Registration will have continuous access to schedule changes through the first week of the Spring semester without a penalty.
- Registration access will be deactivated for students who Do Not Register by December 14. Access will be reactivated on the day before classes begin in Spring 2013.
In order to prepare for advising and registration, please do the following:
- Contact your academic adviser to make an appointment for advising. Log into your Gateway account, select "Step 1: Check your degree progress using GPS to view your major advisor's name.
- "Check your Registration Status" for any holds that may prevent you from registration. If you have a registration hold, contact that office that has you on hold. You may be able to register anyway. Note: Students who have a hold should still meet with their academic adviser to obtain advising and pin number. When the hold is resolved, registration can occur.
- Print a copy of your Graduation Planning System (GPS) from Gateway under "Enrollment Essentials". The Graduation Planning System (GPS) lists all your graduation requirements and informs you of the requirements you have completed and those that are incomplete. Use GPS and degree plans to help you determine which courses you should take. Watch GPS Video.
- Create a tentative schedule. Use the "Course Schedule Planning Worksheet" to ensure you collect all the information you need.
- Take your tentative schedule and a copy of your GPS and degree plan guide to your advising appointment or group advising session. Remember to request your registration pin number for Spring 2013.
- Register for courses via Gateway during your three-day Priority Registration period. While you register, please keep your Degree Evaluation guide handy to ensure you are not repeating a course you do not need.
- To view your class schedule, select "Enrollment Essentials" and select Step 5(View your detailed course schedule). Then click the link entitled "Student Detail Schedule" or "Week at a Glance" in the Registration Menu.
- Planning to Graduate this Spring 2013, students should submit an "Application for Degree" card to the Registrar's Office after meeting with your adviser.
** Include CRN's on the worksheet. It speeds up the Web Registration process. **
Remember: Students who register during Priority and Open Registration will have continuous access to registration, beginning December 14 through the first week of the upcoming Spring 2013 semester.
Registration access will be deactivated for students who do not register by December 14. Access will be reactivated on the day before classes begin in Spring 2013.
- No registration pin number necessary to register.
- Registration access is available 24/7 beginning October 22nd through the 1st week of Spring 2013 classes.

Planning to Graduate this Spring 2013? Submit an "Application for Degree" card to the Registrar's Office after meeting with your adviser. This card is available in the Registrar's Office.
Once your "Application for Degree" card is submitted, a final degree audit will be process. Additionally, you will begin to receive further information about Commencement weekend including the numbers of tickets that will be provided to each graduate. Stay tuned for further information via your student email or visit the Commencement website at www.stmarytx.edu/commencement.

If a student wishes to add a course that is closed, they must submit an ADD/DROP form to the Registrar's office with the appropriate signatures. During the100% Refund period (with the exception of a Biology and English courses), the student must obtain the signatures from the instructor as well as the adviser. If the student is adding a closed Biology and English courses, the student must obtain a signature of the departmental chair and the adviser.

A Prerequisite is a requirement that must be completed prior to the registration of a course. Prerequisite courses are listed in the University catalog and are also available via the course schedule on Gateway. If you are registering for a course that has a prerequisite and you are planning to take the prerequisite course over the summer, please note that you will not be allowed to add this course via Gateway. You will need to obtain approval from your academic adviser to register for this course. This can be done via the add slip. Once approval is obtained, bring the add slip to the Registrar's Office to add the class.
Cancelled Classes:
Courses with low enrollment are subject to cancellation. St. Mary's University makes every effort to determine course cancellation in advance of the first day of classes, but the final status of a cancelled course may not be resolved until the first day of classes, or shortly thereafter. Students will be notified by phone and/or student e-mail when a course is cancelled.

Not returning to St. Mary's:- If you are not returning to St. Mary's University after Fall 2012, please refer to the withdrawal process listed on the Registrar's Office website or contact the Registrar's Office at 210-436-3701 for information.
- If already priority registered for Spring 2013 and not planning to attend, please go to Gateway and cancel your classes before classes begin and refer to the withdrawal process listed on the Registrar's Office website or contact the Registrar's Office at 210-436-3701 for information. If you misplaced or forgot your registration pin number, please e-mail the Registrar Office at registrar@stmarytx.edu via your St. Mary's student e-mail account.
