Vice President for Academic Affairs
Law Professor Andre Hampton assumed the position of Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs on June 1, 2008 and was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs in February, 2010, after 16 years of service to the university as a faculty member, faculty leader and administrator. Vice President Hampton graduated from the University of Texas School of Law with honors in 1984 and was a member of the Texas Law Review. He also received a Masters of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in 1984. He received, his B.A. in Plan II (the University of Texas Liberal Arts Honors Program) with Special Honors in 1979 and was selected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi.
Vice President Hampton was in private practice for nine years with the prestigious local law firm of Austin law firm Graves Dougherty Hearon & Moody where he and specialized in business and commercial law and health care law. He also served as president of the board of directors of the Dispute Resolution Center in Travis County, co-chairman of the Subcommittee on Funding and Legislation for the State Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and was also vice president of the board of directors of the People’s Community Clinic in Austin, Texas.
While at St. Mary’s he has served in various administrative and leadership roles, including Associate Dean for Administration at the St. Mary’s School of Law and five years as president of the Faculty Senate.
While in private practice, Vice President Hampton began his teaching career at the University of Texas Law School as an adjunct professor. He began teaching full time at St. Mary’s Law School in 1994 and was granted tenure in 2000. His courses have included Alternative Dispute Resolution, Bioethics, Commercial Paper, Contracts, Health Law, Sales and Texas Deceptive Trade Practices. He has also taught International Business Transactions at the St. Mary’s University School of Law Institute on World Legal Issues, in Innsbruck Austria. Vice President Hampton has published articles on healthcare law and policy, alternative dispute resolution and innovative in teaching.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs, in consultation with the academic Deans and Registrar, coordinates the regular instructional offerings and the academic calendar; integrates enrollment reports made by the Registrar; coordinates future staffing and budgetary needs, in consultation with the academic Deans; and arranges the annual Commencement Ceremony with the assistance of the Registrar.
In fulfilling these functions, the Vice President for Academic Affairs has the assistance of the Academic Council, which is an advisory body composed of the Deans of the five Schools, the Director of the Academic Library and the Vice President for Enrollment Management. The Vice President for Academic Affairs presides at the regular meetings of the Academic Council and transmits all important decisions to the Executive Council for ratification or final decision. The Vice President for Academic Affairs acts as Secretary of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees.

Marina Robles joined the Office of Academic Affairs as Assistant to the Vice President for Faculty Matters in January 2005. Though new to the Office of Academic Affairs she has been apart of the St. Mary’s University staff since 1996. She earned her B.B.A in 1994 and plays an integral part of assisting the Vice President of Academic Affairs in faculty related matters including contracts, surveys, faculty development, promotions, sabbaticals and other faculty issues.

Susie Elias has served in the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs under three vice presidents: Charles L. Cotrell, Ph.D. (1986 to 2000); David P. Manuel, Ph.D. (2000 to 2008); and Andre Hampton, J.D. (2008 to present). She oversees the overall functions of the office and is the coordinator of all academic events including both the fall and spring commencement exercises, Academic Convocation, faculty convocations and faculty retirement celebrations. She also prepares the Dean's List for the spring and fall semesters. A St.Mary's University alumna, Susie received her bachelor's degree in computer information systems in 1995.
