Message from Chief

On behalf of the St. Mary's University Police Department, I would like to welcome you and extend our community services to you during your experience here at St. Mary's University. We are looking forward to interacting with the community on many different initiatives, ventures and projects during this year and beyond.

The St. Mary's University Police Department supports the University's mission, and the Vision statement of the University Police Department is "TOGETHER WE CAN." Our vision statement indicates that "TOGETHER WE CAN" as members of the St. Mary's University Police Department exists to serve the community in a joint effort, where department members, students, faculty, staff, visitors, and neighbors of St. Mary's University create the reality of a safe and secure environment for this community. The mission of the St. Mary's University Police Department is to protect life and property, to understand and serve the needs of the community, to actively seek to identify community problems, to support the University's mission and to improve the quality of life in this community through innovative and creative measures, setting the trend for service to the community founded by the Society of Mary.

The members of this department and I ask that you familiarize yourself with the services and programs offered by our department. Should you require additional information regarding the department, please visit us in person at Treadaway Hall, or contact us by telephone at (210) 436-3472, or X3472 from an on-campus telephone, during normal business hours. For emergency services that require our response at anytime (Day or Night), please call (210) 431-1911 or X1911 for an on-campus telephone. For non-emergency services, please call (210) 436-3330 or X3330 for an on-campus telephone.

Our department complies with the federal mandate regulating the disclosure of crime statistics that fall under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Department of Education's Code of Federal Regulations. The Clery Act specifically requires that certain crimes, which occur on the campus, in off-campus buildings owned or controlled by St. Mary's University, or on any public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus, be reported by means of this report. These statistics are compiled at our department utilizing definitions in accordance with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting Program. In closing, I encourage all University community members to register for the Emergency Notification System (ENS) through Gateway. The University ENS Program called Campus Alert provides emergency communications via text message or e-mail.

If I can be of further assistance, please contact me directly at dott@stmarytx.edu or by telephone at (210) 436-3472. Thank you, and have a safe and successful academic year!
