Welcome to the St. Mary’s University podcast portal. For those that are not familiar with podcasting, here’s the scoop. A podcast is an MP3 audio file that can be downloaded and listened to on your computer, or through any portable MP3 player, like an Apple iPod ™ (hence the name, podcast). Downloading a podcast is like downloading music, except you are not just getting music, but an entire pre-recorded radio program that you can listen to whenever and wherever you want.

Now this idea was spawned from a large student interest in having a St. Mary’s University radio station. A radio station is not something that happens overnight, but a podcast can. So the idea is that we will use this podcast as our own little guerilla radio, while at the same time researching and developing more robust options, like an internet or low frequency radio station. This podcast, lovingly entitled Rattler Radio, is intended to be a transition model, but all of that depends on how often we students download it. Heavy amounts of downloading will prove there is a demand on our campus for a full-fledged radio station.
