Areas of Service

Facilities Administrator

Reports to the Vice President for Administration and Finance. Responsible for the efficient, effective operation of the Physical Plant Department and other functions associated with the administration of university facilities. The Physical Plant department is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and operation of all university buildings, rounds, roads, and utility distribution systems to include the university telephone system. The department also provides duplicating and mail service to the university community.

Telephone Services

Provides dependable, efficient, and timely telephone and voice mail service to the university community through the switchboard and systems administration. Refer to IT for any additional telephone services.

University Vehicle Rental Service

St. Mary's University has three (3) 15-passenger vans available to departments for rental at $25.00 per day. We also have an 8-passenger van available for your use. Please contact Guadalupe Rodriguez or Shirley Zertuche in the Physical Plant Front Office at extension 3335 for information on availability and rental agreements. Rental agreements can be sent to you by fax or electronically if so desired.

Duplicating

The primary function of the Duplicating Center is to meet the expectations of all faculty, staff, and/or students of St. Mary�s University. Our expectations are to process all service orders in a timely fashion. The Duplicating Center will provide copying and other services such as folding, cutting, binding, etc.

Mail Center

The primary function of the Mail Center is to process all outgoing and sort incoming mail in a proficient and timely manner. The Mail Center services the University faculty, staff, and students..

Housekeeping

The Housekeeping Division provides housekeeping services for all university buildings, including residence halls, Law School, School of Business, and the University Center. We provide intra-campus moving services for faculty and staff. Housekeeeping harvests recyclable waste paper from all offices. We also work closely with the University Sustainability Committee to harvest plastic, aluminum and paper from all buildings and on campus. Housekeeping picks up mail from U.S. Post Office and delivers it to campus mail center. We provide 24-hour emergency service in above areas.

Grounds

Grounds provides an attractive, safe, and clean outdoor environment by maintaining and improving turf, landscaped areas, trees, shrubs, sidewalks, parking lots, roads, fences, irrigation systems, signage, outside trash disposal, and animal control.

Skilled Crafts

Skilled Crafts maintains and repairs buildings to include foundations, roofs, walls, floors, and installed structural, electrical, and plumbing components. We provide painting for interior and exterior surfaces on a periodic schedule and maintain and repair basic classroom furniture and equipment such as laboratory tables, lecture stations, chalkboards, and installed projection screens. Skilled Crafts provides locksmith services to the university community to include cutting and issuing keys, maintaining key records, and maintaining door and panic hardware. We provide preventive maintenance inspections and repair of all permanently installed building components. Skilled Crafts maintains and operates chiller and boiler plants and utility distribution systems (sewer, storm drain, well water, domestic water, natural gas, communication, and high voltage electrical distribution). Maintains and operates campus water wells. Repairs and maintains all heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems in campus buildings. Maintains swimming pools and campus security lighting. Provides 24-hour callback emergency response in the areas of responsibility mentioned above.

Environmental Health and Safety

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) has been established to provide guidance to faculty, staff, and students in maintaning safe workplace practices and minimizing environmental impact. OSHA and EPA compliance training is offered through classroom discussion and online presentations. We partner with our students and the community to promote recycle processes and manage disposal of hazardous waste in accordance to federal, state and local regulations.
