The Turgut Ozan Endowed Scholarship in Engineering supports students majoring in any of the six undergraduate engineering programs offered at St. Mary's University. Our students come from all over the United States and the world, but the majority of them are from right here in Texas. After graduation, they may go on to graduate school at such places as Georgia Tech University, Rice University, or the University of Texas. Or, they may head straight to the workplace with companies such as Dell, Texas Instruments, Motorola, or Verizon. However, it all starts at St. Mary’s, and that’s where we need your help.
Scholarship support is the number one goal of St. Mary's University. The University awards approximately $2 million each year in scholarships and financial aid but more help is needed. The average tuition rate for an undergraduate student is $19,000 a year. By awarding scholarships, we can help ease the financial burden that our students must often bear, even after graduation. A scholarship award can make the difference between a high school senior choosing St. Mary’s over another university or a freshman student having to work a part-time job versus having the opportunity to enjoy the unique campus life of our University. With your help, we can make a difference to the current and future students who want to pursue an engineering education at St. Mary’s. The Department of Engineering has set a substantial goal for the Ozan Scholarship: $1 million! Currently, the scholarship stands at $50,000. As you can see, we have a challenge before us, but one we are confident to meet. If you would like to make a gift, you can download a pledge form here and send it to: Sara Piety You also may visit our secure Web site to make an online gift. Just be sure to indicate in the comments section that your gift is for the Ozan Scholarship. We hope you will join our efforts in paying tribute not only to an outstanding professor but also to future engineering students who will be well-qualified to carry on the legacy of Turat Ozan, Ph.D., and the Marianist ideals of this University. For questions or additional information on the scholarship, you may contact Sara Piety, development officer for the School of Science, Engineering and Technology, at (210) 431-4333 or spiety@stmarytx.edu. |
