Welcome to St. Mary's University! As new students, there's no need to feel overwhelmed by the many questions that exist about the University and about your academic future.
To help you transition into life at St. Mary's Unviersity, we've put together a comprehensive Zaragoza program. Begin your journey here!
How to Register for Zaragoza
Prior to registering for the Zaragoza Program, you must be officially accepted to St. Mary's University and have paid your enrollment deposit.- Go to https://gateway.stmarytx.edu/
- Enter your Login and Password
- Click on the New Undergraduate Student Tab
- Select the Orientation and select which program you will be attending. In this page you will be able to register for the specific Zaragoza program you wish to attend as well as indicate any guests that are coming with you. You will also find more specific information about the program.
Zaragoza Fee
There is an Zaragoza registration cost of $130. The fee is billed to the student's account and will appear on their tuition bill in the spring.Check-In and Zaragoza Program Schedule
Check-in takes place in the University Center from 8 to 9 a.m. and takes about 30 minutes. The overall program will conclude approximately by 4 p.m.

CLEP Exams
CLEP exams allow students to receive college credit toward introductory-level courses (e.g., the St. Mary's Core Curriculum) for knowledge already attained.
For more information about credit-by-exam policies at St. Mary's, contact the Registrar's Office at 210-431-6789. You may also download the Credit-by-Exam information available on the Registrar's Office website.
CLEP exams are offered every month of the year through the St. Mary's Testing Center. Contact the Center at 210-436-3135 for specific dates and fee information.
COMPASS Testing
New students at St. Mary's University are required to complete the COMPASS math placement test prior to attending any New Student Zaragoza session if they are not transferring in three hours of college-level mathematics. Students who do not demonstrate math proficiency at the required level as determined by test scores are required to pass (D or better) MT 0301 Intermediate Algebra, or its equivalent, prior to enrolling in college-level math courses.- (REQUIRED) Any student without college level math, either via dual credit or placement exam.
- (EXEMPT) Students who receive transfer credit for three hours of college-level mathematics are exempt from taking the COMPASS math placement exam.
- (OPTIONAL) Students who are admitted to the Academic Enrichment Program (AEP), regardless of major, may choose to take the COMPASS math placement exam if they desire to place out of MT 0401. To determine if your transfer credit/credit by exam/dual credit will satisfy this requirement, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission at uadm@stmarytx.edu or 210-436-3126 prior to registering for any New Student Orientation session.
COMPASS Testing Dates
Students needing to take the COMPASS exam will be notified through their admission materials of their on campus testing day and time 3 weeks prior to the Zaragoza Program you registered for. Please take this into consideration when planning your trip. Note: You can take advantage of remote testing sites and complete your COMPASS exam requirement prior to attending your Zaragoza Program.For more information or questions about testing, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission at uadm@stmarytx.edu or 210-436-3126.
Critical Thinking Skills Test
All first-time freshmen will be required to take the California Critical Thinking Skills Test during Zaragoza. Scores on the California Critical Thinking Skills Test are used to determine if students will be required to enroll in an Interdisciplinary Studies course that focuses on developing critical thinking skills.Student Health Center
The Student Health Center provides high quality primary health care services that are cost-effective and accessible to enrolled students of St. Mary's University.
All Students Under Age 30:
In order to be allowed to register for classes, all students that are under the age of 30, must submit a Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccination Form at least 10 days before the 1st day of class. The meningococcal meningitis vaccine must have been received within 5 years of entering St. Mary s University.
The Student Health Center offers the meningococcal meningitis vaccine for $135. Please call the office for an appointment at 210-436-3506.
International Students:
All international students must submit a Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire and show receipt of a TB skin test or IGRA (TB blood test) if applicable. This information must be received by the Student Health Center prior to the first day of class.
The Student Health Center offers the TB skin test at NO CHARGE for international students; however the student is responsible for charges resulting from follow-up testing, referrals, or treatment if found medically necessary.

University Bookstore
While on campus, be sure to visit the University Bookstore to begin stocking up on your St. Mary's gear! During orientation, the bookstore will be open:- Monday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Welcome Week Activities
Start your St. Mary's experience on the right foot by attending Rattler Welcome Week events, the official kick-off of the semester.In addition to being lots of fun, Welcome Week activities are intended to assist you in discovering services and programs that are available to help our students feel at home while meeting new people, making new friends, and living out the Rattler Spirit!
