H1N1 (Swine) Flu Response Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4
and Preparedness

Note: St. Mary's University is currently at Response Level 2

Level 1: Routine – confirmed cases of human to human transmission of H1N1 (Swine) Flu anywhere in world

Level 1 Response will likely be minimal for most areas of the University. During Level 1, no active cases are present in Bexar County or on campus. Preparedness for this level is to increase awareness of the potential issues resulting from the pandemic and to disseminate information regarding preparation to the University.

Level 2: Minor – confirmed cases in Bexar County and/or minor cases within the St. Mary's community

Level 2 Response means that confirmed cases are present in Bexar County and/or on campus. At this level the University will begin to see increases in student, faculty and staff absenteeism and some minor interruption of University operations. Preparedness for this level will focus on making sure essential functions are identified and that essential staff in these areas are identified and prepared. Additionally, tracking and reporting of faculty, staff and students who become ill will be a priority.

At Level 2, a Preparedness educational campaign will be launched and communicated to the University community.

Level 3: Major – moderate confirmed cases within the St. Mary's community

Level 3 Response means that the St. Mary’s community is experiencing a moderate outbreak of flu and increasing interruptions of University operations. Preparedness for this level will continue to be focused on maintaining essential functions in light of increased absenteeism and cancellations of programs, classes, activities, offices, etc.

Level 4: Disaster – significant confirmed cases within the St. Mary's community

Level 4 Response means that the St. Mary’s community is experiencing a significant outbreak and substantial interruption of University operations. Preparedness for this level will focus on maintaining the most essential departmental functions in light of high absenteeism and significant cancellations of programs, classes, activities, offices, etc.
