Office of University Communications

The Office of Communications handles the internal and external publicity for St. Mary's University's three schools (School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Engineering, Science and Technology, and the Bill Greehey School of Business), the Graduate School and the School of Law.

Our staff works with faculty and staff to provide consulting and support on everything from social media and website content management to putting our renowned faculty experts in contact with reporters looking for sources for stories. Guided by the President's Strategic Plan, the Office of Communications uses an integrated marketing and communications promote stories about St. Mary's mission and commitment to academic excellence and community service locally, regionally, nationally and around the globe using a variety of different mediums.

The Office is also responsible for keeping our internal audiences (students, faculty, staff and alumni) engaged and informed. We write, design and distribute E-talk, a bi-monthly electronic newsletter; Gold & Blue, an alumni magazine produced three times a year; and Law Notes, the bi-annual newsletter for St. Mary's law alumni.

Beth Barbee
Law News and Information Coordinator

Beth Barbee Beth joined the University Communications team in September 2007. In her current role, she is responsible for School of Law publications and media relations as well as promoting the school's events and programs.

Beth is a member of the Texas Public Relations Association, American Advertising Federation and Public Relations Society of America. She came to St. Mary's from Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business where she was associate director of Communications and Marketing and managing editor of the award-winning Baylor Business Review.

Gina Farrell
Director of Media Relations and Social Media

Gina is the point person for members of the media with questions about the University or who are in need of a faculty expert to discuss local, national or world events for a story. Additionally, she reaches out to local, regional and national media to share the successes and highlights of the University, our faculty and staff, and our students. Gina first joined the Communications team in June 2006; however, as the spouse of a U.S. Air Force officer, she relocated to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, for two years before rejoining the University in November 2010.

Gina is a former reporter and editor with newspapers in Texas, Louisiana and Alaska. Additionally, she served for four years as press secretary for U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana in her Washington, D.C. office.

Nicolette Good
Director of Marketing Communications

Nicolette Good Nicolette joined University Communications in August 2008. She is the point of contact for external communication pieces, such as academic brochures, event invitations, advertisements, etc. She is also the associate editor for the Gold & Blue magazine and writes for E-Talk, the St. Mary's online newsletter.

She participates in the St. Mary's University Neighborhood Revitalization Project by assisting the director with publications and communications, maintaining the Project's website at www.stmuproject.org, and serving as the Project's marketing committee chair.

Previously, she worked as an arts writer for the San Antonio Current and as a communications copywriter for the American Payroll Association.

Andrew Festa
Communications Coordinator

If you have a question about St. Mary's social media presence or electronic newsletters, contact Andrew. He promotes the University through those avenues, while also writing and editing for St. Mary's publications and helping maintain and improve the website. Andrew joined our family in March 2012 after a decade in print journalism. He has done a little bit of everything in stints at the San Antonio Express-News and the Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle.

Kimberly Kennedy
Graphic Designer

As the graphic designer, Kimberly manages St. Mary's visual brand while designing and producing dynamic print and electronic publications. She designs all of the University's print publications, advertising, marketing materials and online graphic elements. Kimberly is also a skilled photographer.

Kim graduated Magna Cum Laude from Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor's in Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Prior to joining St. Mary's, she worked as an in-house designer for corporations in Maryland, Oregon and Texas.

Chris Jarvis

A Navasota native, Jarvis grew up amid the slow paces of the small-town lifestyle listening to classic country music and enjoying quiet, open spaces. Despite the initial culture shock, he loves every minute of San Antonio. After graduating from Texas A&M University in December 2008, Jarvis decided to stay for nearly four more years when he was hired as a communications specialist for the College of Science. He joined St. Mary's University in July 2012 and is excited to continue promoting higher education.

Candace J. "Candy" Kuebker
Senior Communications Director

Candy Kuebker As executive editor of the University alumni magazine, Gold & Blue, Candy cultivates story ideas, edits the publication, writes Class Notes and News from Around the Grove, and occasionally will pen features and profiles. Candy is also the Director of Special Projects managing a variety of events, from presidential inaugurations and academic lecture series to assisting with the St. Mary's Neighborhood Revitalization Project.

Candy has worked at St. Mary's since 1977 when she was hired as an admission counselor. She left undergraduate admission work in 1989 to become director of alumni relations, a position she held for eight years before moving to the Office of University Communications.

Chad Peters
Sports Information Coordinator

Chad Peters Peters joined our community in August 2010 from the San Antonio Express-News. His experience at the Express-News as a s sports reporter helps him find engagin human-interest stories about our student-athletes' successes in the classroom and in their respective sport. Because athletic events are a major part of campus life, Chad also works with Student Life to market the games to students and get them to come out to more games. he also communicates regularly with alumni and boosters keeping them in the loop of all Rattler Athletics .

This isn't Chad's firts time in this role. He spent a semester of his senior year as the interim sports information director. He graduated from St. Mary's University in 2006 with his bachelor's in English communication arts.

Dianne Pipes
Chief of Staff to the President and
Executive Director, Office of University Communications

Dianne Pipes Dianne works with the President of the University regarding the Executive Council and the Board of Trustees, coordinating the scheduling and communications functions for the president and related functions of the Office of the President.

Dianne also oversees the Office of University Communications and is responsible for planning, evaluating and supervising the department's programs, activities and staff. She ensures that the Office of University Communications functions are in line with and support St. Mary's overall Strategic Plan and mission.

Rosemary Segura
Coordinator for Web and Print Communications

Rosemary Segura Rosemary rejoined the University Communications team in 2010 after having served two years as a Development Officer coordinating fundraising efforts for the St. Mary's Fund. Prior to that, she supported the University Communications staff as Office Manager for four years, and worked in the Residence Life Office from 2002 to 2004. In her current role, she contributes in the areas of: Web site content management; office management; photography; and composing, proofreading and editing for University publications. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in speech communication here at St. Mary's.
