SAN ANTONIO — Senior Annia Olivares leaves one last impression before retiring from Rattler soccer, being selected to the Heartland Conference All-Tournament Team.

Olivares’ (El Paso, Texas) honor came from her work in the Rattlers’ semifinal game against the nationally ranked St. Edward’s University on Thursday. As the No. 4 seed entering the conference tournament, the Rattlers faced one of the nation’s best in the Hilltoppers, falling 2-0. But with the defensive work of Olivares, the Hilltoppers were kept at bay, making her the sole Rattler to be represented on the All-Tournament Team.

Assisting her goalkeeper, Olivares made a particularly eye-popping play with a save in the net to prevent a Hilltopper goal.

Just before the tournament where she would excel, Olivares was selected to the All-Heartland Conference Second Team for the second time in her four-year career. The defender helped the Rattlers to four shutouts on the season and was a key component in St. Mary’s advancing to the conference tournament.

After spending last year’s tournament sidelined because of injury, Olivares broke out to end her career on a high note in the postseason with her All-Tournament Team selection.
