St. Mary´s Rolls to Second Win, 90-62 Over Rhema Bible College

SAN ANTONIO—Ronald Tata posted a double-double in his first game as a Rattler, and St. Mary’s University shot 59.6 percent from the field, as the Rattlers rolled to a 90-62 win over Rhema Bible College in action at the St. Mary’s Thanksgiving Classic Friday night at Bill Greehey Arena.

Tata (Jr., Houston) hit on 7-of-10 shots from the field, good for 15 points, and pulled down 11 rebounds to pick up the double-double. Tata had been held out of the Rattlers first three games with an injury, but made an immediate impact, despite playing in just 23 minutes in the game.

Two other Rattlers scored in double figures for the Rattlers, with Robert Hawkins (Sr., San Antonio) and Danko Barisic (Sr., Osijek, Croatia) each scoring 11 points off the bench. As a team the Rattlers hit on 34-of-57 shots from the field (59.6 percent) and 46.2 percent from three-point range (6-13). The Rattlers also outrebounded the Eagles 38-28.

St. Mary’s started the game with 16-0 run and never trailed. They increased the lead to as much as 26 points at 34-8 on a three-pointer by Hawkins with 8:49 left in the first half. In the second half the Rattlers increased the lead to 38 points.

For the Eagles Fua Igafo scored a game-high 16 points, while Jeriol Cook had 14 points and Gabe White added 12. As a team the Eagles hit on 41.4 percent (24-58) from the field, including eight three-pointers.

In the first game of the day at the St. Mary’s Thanksgiving Classic, Paul Quinn College surprised Cameron University by an 89-84 count. With the win the Rattlers improved to 2-2 overall this season, while Rhema fell to 0-7. Paul Quinn and Rhema Bible will match up on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the third game of the tournament, followed by St. Mary’s and Cameron at 7:30 p.m.
