Interested in Ministry?

Consider the gifts and interests you bring to the St. Mary's community, then consider which of the following ministries might allow you to grow in your faith and prayer life.
  • Hospitality Ministers are individuals who not only greet people before Mass, but also establish a welcoming presence to all our students and are able to make them feel at home and valued in the community. Typically people who can relate to others well and who can memorize make fantastic hospitality ministers.
  • Lectors read reverently and joyfully at Sunday Mass. There is training at the beginning of each semester on how to effectively read Scripture.
  • Eucharistic Ministers distribute the bread and the wine during communion. This is a non-intensive ministry which still allows you to take a leadership role in Sunday masses. Training for Eucharistic Ministry is also offered at the beginning of each semester.
  • Acolytes act as companions to the priests at the altar. Persons hoping to serve as an acolyte should have a good understanding of the way liturgy flows and knowledge of the parts of mass. Those with a penchant for attention to detail and who have confidence in their ability to think on their feet make great acolytes.
  • Music Ministers lead the community in song. If you have an appreciation for the concept of song as prayer then this ministry is for you. If interested, Maria Smith would love to have you join the Liturgical Choir!

Interested in Sponsoring a Mass or Quad Prayer?

Sponsoring a St. Mary's Mass

Any RSO can sponsor an 11 a.m. or 9 p.m. Sunday Mass. Typically sponsors choose their date in accordance to kicking off an awareness week of some sort, however, sponsorship of any kind is welcomed. To learn more about the responsibility involved with sponsoring a Sunday Mass please examine the Mass Sponsorship Form and send a filled out copy to Irene Quesnot one month before your tentative sponsorship date.

Sponsoring a Residence Hall Mass

This is especially appealing to RAs who need to fulfill the Spirituality component for required program topics. If interested in putting on a Residence Hall Mass, please notify Irene Quesnot or Ross Reagan ASAP. Also, please review the Residence Hall Mass Form to learn more about some of the roles that need to be filled.

Sponsoring a Quad Prayer

Geared toward getting our Greeks involved at the 11:15 Friday Prayer in the Quad, we offer the opportunity for them to sponsor a prayer in front of their letters. If you have a specific topic or a specific week that you want to focus on please specify on the Quad Prayer Sponsorship Form and return to UMin.

Daily Scripture

Colossians 3:12-14
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
