Renovation of Assumption Chapel

Thanks to the support of The Ruben M. Escobedo and Veronica Salazar Escobedo Charitable Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation on behalf of Trustee Ruben M. Escobedo (B.B.A. '60) and his wife, and under the leadership of the Rev. Rudy Vela, S.M., Vice President for Mission and Identity, Assumption Chapel was renovated in 2011.

The St. Mary's community is excited about the renovations, which include the Assumption of the Virgin Mary as the focal point and a prominent bronze sculpture of the founder of the Society of Mary, Blessed William Joseph Chaminade.

Brother Joseph Aspell, S.M., an internationally renowned artist, was been commissioned by the U.S. Province of the Society of Mary to sculpt a statue of Chaminade in celebration of the 250th anniversary of his birth.

Renovations began in February 2011, and a dedication of the new altar ceremony took place on Sept. 15, 2011.

Daily Scripture

Colossians 3:12-14
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
