Eligibility:

Prospective students must:

  • Demonstrate strong academic potential
  • Have completed at least 60 hours of college credit and have at least 1 year remaining before graduation
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident
  • Maintain a minimum 12 hour course load per semester
  • Meet at least two of the following criteria:
    • First generation college student
    • Low-income/high financial need
    • Member of a government recognized ethnic or racial minority (Hispanic, African American or Native American)

St. Mary's University McNair Scholars will:

  • Work with a St. Mary’s faculty mentor
  • Attend workshops on GRE preparation, interview skills and other topics
  • Create a resume/vita
  • Participate in a research project and present at scholarly conferences
  • Attend an 8-week paid summer internship
