Expectations of the

Marianist Leadership Program

Each member that fulfills the yearly obligations of the Marianist Leadership Program receives the Marianist Leadership Scholarship.

The requirements to receive this scholarship include, but are not limited to, service, academic standards, active participation, and attendance.

If other commitments will prevent a student from upholding the expectations of the Marianist Leadership Program, the student may request a leave of absence from the program for one semester, for programs like Study Abroad or a scheduling conflict. For just cause, students may be removed from the program by the Marianist Leadership Program coordinator.

Weekly Community Gatherings

Each member of the Marianist Leadership Program is expected to actively participate in scheduled weekly gatherings. Students are encouraged to schedule their classes, work, and extracurricular activities around the meetings. These meetings entail planning events, hosting guest speakers, or a continued opportunity for prayer and sharing. Generally, there are 12 meetings scheduled per semester.

Academic Standards

Students applying to the MLP for the first time are expected to have at least a B average (2.7 GPA), but exceptions may be allowed depending on the student commitment to the program. St. Mary's students applying in the second semester of a year and who have below a 2.7 cumulative average will not be accepted.

Service and Civic Engagement

The Marianist Leadership Program is part of the Civic Engagement and Career Development Center, the primary resource for all service opportunities on campus. The Marianist Leadership Program works through civic engagement to foster a sense of servant-leadership. Students are encouraged to engage in any of the multitude of service projects, either on a one-time basis or in smaller time increments over a longer period of time.

A variety of activities exist, including opportunities to mentor a student in a local school district through Communities in Schools, San Antonio Youth Literacy, the Good Samaritan Center, and Mentor for America (Teach for America.) The Marianist Leadership Program will also partner with Habitat for Humanity, Haven for Hope, the San Antonio Food Bank, and many more agencies throughout San Antonio.

Retreats

At the beginning of each semester, all members of the Marianist Leadershp Program gather together for a chance to renew personal and group cohesion. The time is spent in prayer and discussion & deepening our sense of community. Students begin to build new bonds with the other MLP members, in addition to re-enforcing their commitment and understanding of the Marianist Virtues and Charism.
