Overview of Program
The Academic Enrichment Program (AEP) is a developmental education program administered under the supervision of the Learning Assistance Center at St. Mary's University. AEP is available during the fall to meet the needs of students in critical reading, writing and reasoning, and in algebra. For conditionally admitted students, attendance in this program is required as part of their admission.
As a developmental program, AEP is committed to meeting students at their individual levels of verbal, math and critical thinking preparedness with rigorous course work and peer mentor support. The program is intended to fill whatever gap exists between a student's previous education and the demands of college work.
Overall, AEP enrolls 50 to 60 students per fall semester.
AEP students take:
| Course Title | Hours |
|---|---|
| IS1300W Interdisciplinary Studies | 3 credit hours |
| MT0401 Math Skills | 0 credit hours |
| 2 to 3 University core and other courses | 6-9 credit hours |
| ND0101 Personal and Academic Development | 0 credit hours |
| 9-12 credit hours | |
Students must pass all courses with a minimum of a "C" average to complete the program.
Weekly Peer-Led Team Learning sessions in IS1300W and MT0401 give students more specific attention to their needs as first-semester college students by providing group discussion with LAC peer mentors for reading/writing and for math.
Advising for Fall and Spring registration aids students in selecting appropriate courses for their first year and for their intended majors.
