About AEP
Why An Academic Enrichment Program?
If you're like most students, the first year of college will be your most challenging. In the midst of new surroundings and new expectations, some anxiety is natural - even healthy - as you make the quantum leap to higher education.
But what if high school hasn't quite prepared you for this huge step? Many colleges take the attitude of "you're on your own" toward students whose math, reading and writing skills need development to the college level.
St. Mary's has created a program to reverse this trend. The Academic Enrichment Program (AEP) is a developmental education program administered under the supervision of the Learning Assistance Center at St. Mary's University. No matter how far you've come on your path to education - or how you far you still have to go - AEP meets you at your own stage of learning with student-centered coursework and personal advising.
AEP emphasizes the critical thinking that is vital to college, where the "basics" of reading, writing and math are not so basic anymore. Under the umbrella of critical thinking, you'll be able to make and reach your educational goals with a better sense of who you are as a learner and a human being.
For a step as big as entering college, you want to be prepared as possible. That's why AEP is here, to prepare you and help you leap toward your goals.
