While some employers are able to project their future hiring needs, many find themselves knee-deep in work and needing someone now. The Career Services Office offers the traditional method for filling a position and a new alternative or supplement, the Resumé Bank. Employers are welcome to list their opening position with the Office of Career Services, which will advertise the job in their Job Bank and in the weekly e-newsletter, Professional Pathways. An interested student may submit a resumé either directly to the employer or to the Career Services Office, which will forward it to the employer.
How does the Resumé Bank work? A student submits his or her resumé to the Office of Career Services and notes three areas of law in which he or she would like employment. The Resumé is entered into the password-protected Resumé Bank. An employer registers online with the Office of Career Services, and a password is issued to the employer. Passwords will not be issued to head hunters or recruitment firms; additionally, the employer must be a licensed attorney, law firm or other legal employer. Once received, the employer may access the Resumé Bank, choose the applicable area of employment, the time period and class years sought and immediately view the posted resumés of potentially eligible students. The employer directly contacts the students that he or she wants to interview.
This method eliminates the employer having to wait to receive resumés. A pool of candidates is available at the touch of a keyboard.
