Lone Star Classic® Invitation

Lone Star Classic

St. Mary’s University School of Law
San Antonio, Texas

October 15-17, 2009

The 2009 LONE STAR CLASSIC® will be held on October 15th, 16th, and 17th in San Antonio, Texas. The competition is open to all law schools that have been accredited by the American Bar Association. The competition committee will select 16 teams - of four students each - to compete. Each school selected to compete may enter no more than one team.

As with last year’s competition, the problem this year will be a criminal case. The case will take place in the hypothetical state of Lone Star and will utilize the Federal Rules of Evidence.

If you are interested in being considered for the Classic, please complete the enclosed entry form at your earliest convenience and return it to Professor David Schlueter, Director of Advocacy Programs. The deadline for filing the entry form is June 19, 2009. Our committee will extend invitations to the sixteen schools the week of June 22nd. The problem will be sent to the competing schools in August.

The entry fee will be $500.00. Entry fees are due not later than September 11, 2009.

This year the three preliminary rounds will take place on Thursday, October 15th and Friday, October 16th. Teams will break to semi-final rounds on Saturday morning, October 17th, with the final round on the afternoon of the 17th, at the law school’s state-of-the art courtroom. We will announce the various winners of the preliminary rounds at a dinner buffet and reception on Friday evening. Awards for the preliminary rounds will include best advocate for the preliminary rounds, best opening, and best summation.

We look forward to another great competition this year. If you have any questions, please contact Professor Schlueter at dschlueter@stmarytx.edu or at 210-431-2212.
