St. Mary’s law school hosted the 2008 Lone Star Classic® on October 9th, 10th, and 11th. The Classic is an annual invitational mock trial tournament that draws schools from across the nation. The competition is open to all law schools that have been accredited by the American Bar Association. The competition committee selected sixteen teams - of four students each - to compete. Each school selected to compete may enter no more than one team. Last year, St. Mary’s University School of Law hosted the following law schools: American University Washington College of Law; Baylor University Law School; Brooklyn Law School; Cumberland School of Law; Emory University School of Law; Florida State University College of Law; University of Houston Law Center; Louisiana State University Law Center; Michigan State University College of Law; Pace University Law School; Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law; South Texas College of Law; Texas Wesleyan University School of Law; Tulane University School of Law; Villanova University School of Law; and Washington University School of Law.

The judges for the final round were Judge Xavier Rodriquez, Federal Public Defender Henry Bemporad and Richard Durbin of the United States Attorney’s Office. The problem this year was a criminal problem.

The winner of the 2008 Classic was Villanova University School of Law. The team from Villanova consisted of Mr. Vincent Barbera, Ms. Jennifer D'Iorio, Mr. Michael Lyon , and Mr. Christopher Mannion.
