Supreme Court of Texas to Visit St. Mary’s Law

The Supreme Court of Texas is scheduled to hear oral arguments in the St. Mary's University School of Law Courtroom on March 25. The Justices will hear oral arguments from three cases from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The sessions are open to the public and will be webcast live on St. Mary’s website.

Chicano Civil Rights Advocates Honored

Voting rights advocates Henry Flores, Ph.D. (B.A. ’74) and Nina Perales, J.D., were honored Thursday night at a banquet celebrating Chicano Civil Rights at St. Mary’s University. The event commemorated the landmark case of League of United Latin American Citizens v. Rick Perry, Governor of Texas. that demonstrated the crucial importance of the U.S. Census and its resultant effect on voting rights.

The Corporation for National and Community Service announced that St. Mary’s University has been named to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
