The 57th annual Red Mass, celebrating the San Antonio legal community and inviting blessings on the judicial year, is slated for Thursday, Oct. 29 at San Fernando Cathedral, 115 Main Plaza.

St. Mary's University School of Law will honor Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Judge Barbara Parker Hervey and U.S. Representative Michael McCaul as the 2009 St. Mary's Distinguished Law Graduates at an awards dinner Friday, Oct. 23 at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel, 402 W. Market Street. The award is given each year to two individuals with both outstanding achievements in the legal profession and dedicated service to St. Mary's School of Law.

Beginning on Thursday, St. Mary's University School of Law is hosting the 2009 Lone Star Classic, an annual invitational mock trial tournament open to ABA-accredited law schools nationwide held at the St. Mary's Courtroom and the Bexar Country Courthouse. This year the field consists of 16 teams from law schools across the country.

The 2009 Excellence in Legal Service Award was given to St. Mary's University School of Law Clinical Professor Lee Terán by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) at their 25th Annual San Antonio Awards Gala on Friday, September 18 at the Westin Riverwalk Hotel. "We are delighted that Professor Terán has been recognized by MALDEF for her impressive work in the area of Immigration litigation," said Ana M. Novoa, St. Mary's associate dean for Clinical Education and Public Interest and professor of Law.
