Exercise and Sport Science

The Exercise and Sport Science major prepares students for various careers. Students interested in teaching physical education and/or coaching in secondary schools choose Exercise and Sport Science as teaching field. The major also serves as preparation for graduate study in areas such as exercise physiology, athletic training and sports rehabilitation.

Major Program

The Exercise and Sport Science major prepares students for various careers. The major equips student with the academic knowledge and the practical experience necessary to work in a variety of recreational and fitness settings. Students interested in teaching physical education and/or coaching in secondary schools choose Exercise and Sport Science as a first or second teaching field. The major also serves as preparation for graduate study in areas such as exercise physiology, athletic training and sports rehabilitation.

Student interested in working in a "movement" environment, such as athletics, physical education, athletic training, fitness and personal training, would enjoy the Exercise and Sport Science major.

  • Foundations of Exercise & Sport Science
  • Spring Sports & Activities
  • Prevention & Care of Activity-Related Injuries
  • Biomechanics of Human Movement
  • Current Issues in Exercise & Sport Science
  • Tests and Measurements
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology of Exercise Wellness
  • Advanced Principles of Exercise and Sport Science
Note: To teach Physical Education or coach in a secondary school, students must fulfill the requirements of the Teacher Education program.

Minor Program

The Exercise and Sport Science minor consists of 18 hours in the field. Students can use the minor to improve their athletic and sport science knowledge, sports safety and general athletics.
