Greek Letter organizations may not be what you envision! Gone are the days of Animal House. Instead you will find that Greek Letter organizations offer opportunities to develop your leadership skills, strengthen your academics, give back to your community, all while you build friendships that last a lifetime. Take a closer look and see what Greek Life at St. Mary’s can offer.

Scholarship

Academics and scholarship are the ideals upon which Greek Life is based. St. Mary’s Greek Letter organizations provide support to the academic mission of the university by encouraging their members to attend study halls and to participate in other academic success programs.

Service

Community service is one of the basic fundamental principles of all Greek organizations. Each year Greek Letter organizations donate hundreds of hours of their time to philanthropic projects and community service endeavors. Each chapter has its own philanthropy which is supported on an on-going basis.

Leadership

Students involved in Greek Letter organizations obtain valuable experience through chapter management, day-to-day operations, self-governing and community involvement. Many leadership opportunities are also available to the members within the chapter and through the Interfraternity, College Panhellenic or All Greek Councils. Greek student leaders gain skills in areas of organization, time management, responsibility, decision-making, communication, accountability and money management.

Brotherhood/Sisterhood

As a member of a Greek Letter organization, you will form friendships unlike those found in many other organizations. Joining a Greek Letter organization is not about conformity. It’s about finding a place where you can celebrate your individuality, while sharing commons bonds with your brothers or sisters. These bonds extend well beyond years at St. Mary’s.
