The Master of Arts in Reading is a program designed for persons preparing for, or already engaged in education, reading education, or business. Students are challenged to expand their potential for professional growth through intensive study of the reading process and the intervening physical and psychological variables that often inhibit comprehension. Students learn how new knowledge is created and how to think, act, and perform independently by reviewing research and developing case studies. The clinical practice course requires students to use a repertoire of diagnostic procedures and pedagogical strategies to remedy and prevent reading difficulties. The coursework fosters an integration of knowledge as well as disciplinary specialization. Academic exposure outside of reading is an integral part of the program. |
