MA Program
Pastoral Counseling

Pastoral Counseling is a dual degree program in Counseling and Pastoral Ministry. Graduates of this program receive a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry. Graduates meet the academic requirements for licensing by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors and certification as Pastoral Counselors by the United States Catholic Conference (USCC) and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.

Student may pursue a Master of Arts in Community Counseling or Marriage and Family Therapy. The practicum and internship courses must be completed in a pastoral counseling setting. Students receive joint supervision from St. Mary's University faculty and pastoral counseling supervision on site. The pastoral counseling supervisors integrate spiritual/pastoral issues into the counseling supervision. Graduates of the Marriage and Family Therapy program must complete and additional 6 hours of internship. Individuals with a Marriage and Family Therapy of M.Div.. background should consult the Graduate Program Director for Counseling details. Individuals with a M.Div. meet the theology requisites for the Pastoral Counseling program.
